Sheltowee Trace Association
“Protecting, Preserving, and Promoting the Sheltowee Trace National Recreation Trail”
The Sheltowee Trace runs 323 miles from the northern boundary of Daniel Boone National Forest in Rowan County, Kentucky to the southern boundary of Big South Fork NRRA in Scott County, Tennessee. The STA is a 501(c)3 non-profit association with the purpose of achieving the formation of a highly functional, cross-state recreation trail. This includes trail maintenance, building, and marking.
One of the coolest things the STA does is their Hiker Challenge. The goal is to hike the entire Sheltowee Trace Trail from end to end over one year. Each month, two opportunities are planned for you to join a team of like-minded adventurers on a Saturday and Sunday hike of the Trace. This is an amazing and supportive way for anyone to hike a long trail! Check out more info on the challenge here.
Inspired by the organization, RRT has reached out to the Association to host events showcasing the challenge and how to get involved. Each event inspires new hikers to take the challenge, so look for more to be posted each year. The first in-store fundraiser for the STA in 2019 was a huge success, raising nearly $1,100 in just a few hours! The event was sponsored by Gregory Packs and 50 West Brewery, ensuring fun was had by all. We look forward to continuing to build our partnership with them and supporting their endeavors.
